Cariel loves to sing. And her stunning voice will surely stop you in your tracks. An immigrant from Antigua, Cariel is using her voice to help support her way through graduate school in the United States.

Cariel Coates tells her story of being an immigrant, graduate student and aspiring musician. Cariel is the true definition of someone who hustles to get where she wants to go. Originally from Antigua, Cariel sought further education to advance her career and moved to the United States. While on an F1 visa, Cariel has been working towards a master’s degree, while also singing on the streets of D.C. to pay expenses. At the beginning of this year, when we first interviewed Cariel, she was seeing a lot of success. An interview on the local Fox station. Lots of booked gigs. But then COVID-19 hit, and Cariel was forced to reconsider her options. Now, she’s transitioned to a virtual working space and is determined to make it work.
